Chinese Lantern Festival

This past Saturday we went to the Chinese Lantern Festival at the Botanical Gardens.  The garden itself looked really pretty, but the lanterns were really awesome.  Most of them were made of wire and silk, but there were a few made with plastic bottles, porcelain plates, and little glass medicine bottles.  I didn't bring my big camera and was so upset that i didn't.  These pictures are taken with my phone so the lanterns probably don't look as cool.  After we left the gardens we went out for some frozen custard and as soon as we sat down to eat fireworks near by started going off.  Not sure what they were for, but Jeremy said they were for my birthday (which was the next day).

This is the one made with plastic bottles...

she did all kinds of tricks with this table

This one is made with glass medicine bottles...

there were dragons on both sides of the flower that were made with porcelain plates and cups.
they also moved their heads and blew smoke.

Giant Fern!

birthday treats and fireworks!

On my birthday we went out to Wendys for lunch (my choice...who needs fancy dinners :).  Jeremy got me a record player and i went out to some antique stores.  I ended up finding a record i really wanted...Neil Young, Harvest.  Later that evening we saw a movie. Pretty great weekend!

Renaissance Festival

The other weekend we went to the Greater St. Louis Renaissance Festival.  I used to go with my family in North Florida and Atlanta and always had a really fun time.  Jeremy had never been before.  It's always an experience when you go.  Maybe because im a little bit older or because i wasn't with my family, but this time was a little different.  We still had a great time, though.  Turkey legs, jousting, fairies, and a lot of people dressed up.

an early birthday present

i am officially cool with my new saltwater sandals

i ordered these sandals on monday and they were suppose to arrive yesterday.  i was a little anxious ordering online without trying them on since i had heard that they run big.  but i did some research and went ahead and ordered them. (yay for youth sizes and a couple $ cheaper!)  yesterday i was waiting all day to get them in the mail and finally at 2pm the UPS guy knocks on our door.  i open the door and he's walking away and points to the magazine on the floor...wait what about my sandals?  i think that maybe there is another truck coming later in the day and by 6:30 no one comes.  i looked up my tracking number and it says that the post man came at 11am and left a notice.  What?!  there was no notice on my door, the mail box or front door to the building.  liars. maybe someone took it down or it blew away.  anyway i was little T.Oed.  how was i suppose to know what post office to go to?  this morning i went to the one down town and luckily it was there.  all is fine, of course...but i wanted to make sure that they fit and if they didn't and i had to return them i wanted to get them in time for our trip to Thailand next saturday and make sure they were broken in nice (im not sure they need it though).  i pranced around the loft for awhile in my new shoes...ziva trying to lick 'em off my feet.

i finally took down our Christmas lights on our balcony.

straw hat make over and other thrifted things

Last week i went out thrifting and found a few cool things.  One of them was a straw hat.  It looked like there was something on the side or maybe the straw string broke, but i decided to add some flowers in that spot to make it a little bit prettier and not so plain.  Sorry the before picture is not the best.

...

this rug was only $3!

wood frame, dish, scarf, 2 pillow cases, shower curtain, dictionary, straw hat, and rug

this book was just too good to pass up...and for 39cent!

2 pillow cases and the white and yellow fabric is a shower curtain...i didn't know that until i got home.

Ziva has already claimed it

picnic in the park

Sunday we went to the park for a picnic.  It was pretty hot out, but in the shade it wasn't horrible.  Ziva just wasn't having it in getting in the water. When we got back to the truck she just passed out.  The next few days are suppose to be cooler weather.  Tomorrow high of 63!

Remember how i thought there was a weird looking bug on my cherry the other night and the bottle of wine fell?  Well it was just a leaf.  So the next day i got into the raspberries and for a split second i think that there is another bug, but then remember that it is probably just a twig/leaf.  No it was a worm.  I got grossed out, rinsed them and put them up.  So when i got these out for the picnic i looked in and all around each raspberry.  They sure were delicious.
