Fire in the hole!!

In the middle of the night, about 3 AM, me and Jeremy were both woken up by this loud pop sound and then a roaring sound.  We looked at each other and asked what it was.  I got up to look out the window.  As i was walking to the window and lifting the blinds my first thought was "tornado?!".  At first all i saw was what looked like paper and this haze blowing around.  I then saw this big orange glow to my left and noticed the dumpster was on fire.  It was a pretty big fire too. I told Jeremy and we went out on the balcony.  I guess some other people heard it too because the people above us were outside and i believe called the police.  A few minutes later someone went out and tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher.  Didn't do too much except smoke the place up and might have put the air conditioners that were on fire out. Then the fire truck showed and did their thing.  Ziva wasn't in the least bit interested.  Jeremy said that the other week when he was leaving for work he noticed another dumpster had been on fire.  He said it was still smoking and hot.  I don't know if it was as bad or if we just didn't know about it.  I'm not even sure how they are catching fire.  Maybe some punk kids or someone is throwing their cigarette butts off their balcony and it lands on it?   Who knows.   We've had some action around here lately.  Over the weekend 5 cars were broken into with broken windows in one night...all next to each other.  And of course the fire that went down on Valentines Day

there were some wooden pallets by the dumpster that i kinda wanted to do something with them...
jeremy said "there goes your pallets"

fire extinguisher smoke...our place still smells a little smoky.

forest park and tornado scare

last saturday we headed back to forest park to walk some of the trails

i spy...

watched a rugby game for awhile

found this nest on the ground
a few minutes later i found the egg buried in the grass

shortly after we got home it got really dark and stormed really bad for about 15 minutes.
It was so bad i could hardly see out the window.
There was some hail and 50 mph winds and lots of lightening.
After it slowed down we opened the door and heard a ton of sirens.
Later we found out that there was a cardinals baseball game and a huge tent blew
over injuring 100 people and one man died.  They believe he got struck by lightening.

After everything calmed down we decided to head to the mall.
I got some sushi and jeremy got some chinese food.
We just finished eating and walked into Anthropologie.
We were probably only in there 3 minutes before we heard people getting really loud
and it sounds like something was hitting the roof.
Jeremy walked out to see what was going on and after he didn't come right back i followed.
Apparently it was more hail hitting the glass sunroof.
I heard this lady say and make a shape with her hands that the hail
was this big (maybe bigger that a golf ball).
Then i looked over and saw a flood of people running down the stairs and escalators.
Jeremy told me there had been a tornado spotted not far from the mall.
Great! tornadoes. Only one of the things I'm very much afraid of.
When i was younger and it would be storming bad and heard the word tornado i would
start to gather a few things (my teddy bear being one of them) a pillow and sit in
the bathroom closet, which was under the stairs.
Nothing ever happened, but i was still scared.
So we made our way down to the food court, which is the lowest level,
and found a table far away from the glass sunroof.
I was starting to get nervous and Jeremy kept telling me my face was all red.
We heard someone yell out to everyone that there was a tornado and for
everyone to make their way to the tunnels.
Tunnels?
We were pretty close to them so we quickly (thanks to me. I don't think Jeremy was too worried)
made our way to the tunnels.
They were probably only 4or 5 feet wide and with what felt like a million people crammed in there
my claustrophobia was setting in.
So naturally i felt like hurling.
(sushi, tornado scare and being claustrophobic is not a good mix)
Fifteen minutes passed and nothing happened so they let us out.

Here we are in the tunnels.  This lady was all up on me.
And jeremy was trying to comfort me.

What a day!

Ziva meets her twin brother

We were at the dog park earlier and ziva met her twin brother.

Which one is Ziva?

They play the exact same way!  They've actually played together before.
Once this little kid was there and wanted a dog to come to him and both of them ran up
one jumped and put their front paws on his shoulders from behind and the other from the front.
I don't even know which one Ziva was.
From a distance it's a little hard to tell, but the other dog has brown eyes
and not as much white on his chest.  Plus he is a little bigger.

I still think my girl is cuter :)

giant tissue paper flower

Awhile back i saw on Design Sponge (click here) a DIY project on how to make giant paper flowers.  shortly after i went out to hobby lobby and bought some tissue paper and started making a practice one.  It turned out pretty bad and just kinda threw it aside because cutting out all the pedals are not easy with the thin paper.  It was frustrating.  Finally Friday i pulled out the rest and just started cutting away.  It took for ever, but it turned out great (i think so)  I would hate to have to make a ton of these though.  I bought green tissue paper to make a leaf and a stem (i wasn't going to bother with concrete), but then i realized i already had a stem with leaves on it and i would just attach the flower.  Much easier.

grilling out hamburgers and sweet potato fries

When i was in St. Simons my sister in law, Mary, made some really good hamburgers and i over heard her telling my mom what she did to them.  My mom also told me how to make sweet potato fries.  As i've mentioned before, i am no chef and am really not a kitchen person, but these seemed easy enough and both turned out really yummy!  I made the patties while Jeremy cut up the sweet potatoes, and while the fries were cooking he grilled the hamburgers.  Jeremy seemed impressed with my cooking, so thanks Mary and Mom!

(i bought some plants and things to hang planters over the balcony earlier that day too)
