Awkward Dancing

This past weekend was Jeremys work Holiday party. A holiday party after Christmas?  I don't know why.  Anyway, it was at this cool place downtown called The Thaxton and it had kinda this 20's vibe to it (i think it was built in to 20's).  So all was going well, the usual mingling, introducing, and drinking.  After we ate everyone went back downstairs to the bar and this lady sang a few songs.  Then the DJ came out and started playing music. There were a few people out there dancing, but knew Jeremy wasn't going to want to dance.  We did take a few ballroom dancing classes for fun when we were dating, but this was more like 80's music and i knew there was no way he was going to get out there.  They were playing some good songs to dance too and i was actually really wanting to get my groove on, but there was hardly anyone out there and i didn't know anyone.  This lady came up to us that i had talked to for awhile at a previous event and she was wanting to get us out there.  Of course Jeremy volunteered myself.  And of course i declined. I had wanted to get out there though.  I had been dancing around in my head for awhile and was really feeling the beat.  After a few minutes there were about 4 or 5 girls on the floor.  The lady that we talked to earlier motioned for me to come out there.  Sigh. So i trotted out there.  You know when you are watching a group of people dance and in your head you have all these great moves and know exactly what to do but when you get on the dance floor you end up lookin a fool?? Well that was me.  And lookin' fool on the dance floor for me is not doing anything.  I ended up standing in one spot bobbing my head, snapping, and doing some weird version of the salsa.  I look at the other girls dancing.  Oh they're singing to each other...i start trying to sing to the girl next to me...i don't know her (or anyone for that matter) she wont even look at me.  I look back at Jeremy...he's standing with all his friends and i feel like they are all staring at me.  What the heck am i doing??!!  Why can't i dance?  Why am i out here with these people i don't know trying to bust a move and sing to them???  After a couple songs the electric slide comes on and that was my que to make a run for it.  After all that went down we slipped out of there without saying goodbye to anyone.  It wasn't so much embarrassing as it was just plain awkward.  At least i usually only see these people once or twice a year.  I guess i just needed some friends or my mom or even my mom and her friends (which happened at my wedding) out there with me. I'm not usually a stiff!  I went with Lindsey (sister-in-law and bff) to some dance party several years ago and she took me to one of her school dances because we are such dance freaks.  We kinda kept it fun and interesting.  If there was music and dancing we were on the dance floor. At my friends wedding we were out there pretty much the whole night.  Anyway here is proof that i do dance and i don't look like a fool (well maybe i do to others but it's just plain fun to me)...

I might have gone a little crazy overboard on the pictures. Sorry :)
It definitely doesn't look like i have had 17 years
of dance classes.

Heroes Parade

Saturday we walked downtown to see the Welcome Home Heroes Parade.  It was the first big welcome home celebration since the troops have been withdrawn from Iraq in December.  It was nice to see so many people come out.

Little House on the pillow

Ok so i know that was a cheesy title...whatever...

A few months back i saw some little house pillows here and here. The girl on the blog mom makes them. I thought that they were really cute and figured i would try and make one for myself.  I kinda based it off the house i grew up in.  When i would describe to people where i lived it always ended with "oh the big white house with the red chimneys" so i had to have a red roof.  We also used to have a big tree out front with a tire swing on it.  Me and my brother, Ian, were playing on it one day (i was probably 6) and the photographer for the newspaper drove by, stopped and took some pictures of us.  The next week we were in the newspaper...playing on the tire swing.  I also had to have some flowers out front since my mom is a gardener.

My brothers didn't have floral curtains in their bedroom, but i liked the fabric.

Most of it was stitched by hand.

I think the tree might be one of my favorite parts.

And a song for my pillow ...

That dog looks like Ziva!

Our weekend...the one that got away

Earlier last week we found out that one of Jeremy's friends, who is in a band, was going to be coming out this way for a show.  Friday was Jeremy's early day out so we figured we would go see them.  We decided that we would stay the night so i was going to have to board Ziva.

Thursday i took Ziva to the vet for her yearly check up.  Man is she a show stopper or what.  Everyone there (and well this isn't just at the vet, but most places we go...what can i say...i got a cute kid!) was just oooing and ahhing over her.  This one lady kept saying "You're so pretty, you're pretty, you're a pretty puppy" for like 5 minutes.  Then i thought i heard this other lady said  "she looks like a demon" i kinda looked at her like say what?  what did you call my baby?! And then i heard her again and she was only saying " She looks like Demon from Snow Dogs"  which is a movie.  I've only seen like the last ten minutes of it.  It was a little embarrassing at how much attention Ziva was getting when there was another dog sitting near us.  She may be cute, but she is the biggest baby.  It took forever for them to draw blood.  After several treats, letting a little bit of pee out, a few screams, and wiggling out of the needle that was stuck in her arm....they finally got some blood...from the other arm.  Then she tried to get in my lap.  Oh, don't even get me started on the temperature taking.  But she somehow managed all the other shots and stuff.  The veterinarian said she wasn't going to give her anymore treats because she would throw up in the car.  Ziva then immediately burped really loud.  Anyway, after all that, she's a healthy pup.  And she met all her requirements for boarding (oh yea that's why i was telling you all this).

Friday i took Z to Happytails Hotel.  Where all her dreams came true.  Running around with other dogs for hours on end.  Jeremy didn't end up getting off work too early.  When he got home he made reservations at a hotel and i packed us up for the night.  My new shoes came in the mail just in time before we left.  The show was going to be in Springfield, IL which is only about an hour and thirty minutes away.  Of course when we were leaving it was around rush hour and it was raining.  After about 30 minutes we started to have freezing rain. Everyone was driving very slow.  We pulled over to get some gas and Taco Bell.  Jeremy started to wonder if we should just go home.  We kept going and then we came to a stop.  The streets hadn't been salted yet and the roads were freezing.  We were probably in a stop roll traffic jam for 30 minutes.  Our GPS still said we had an hour to get there.  Jeremy kept saying that we should just turn around (we saw them salt the other side of the road) but we were no where near an exit.  Then we started to spin out....fish tail style (or whatever you call it)  Jeremy had it under control for the most part, but then started to panic a little bit.  Other cars backed off for awhile. We then decided to just go on home because we didn't want to die.  Finally we came to an exit and turned around and went home.  We ended up just catching up on our TV shows from earlier in the week.  Not the most exciting, but we managed.  Of course when we finally go out on a trip and do something and have to turn around.

Saturday i woke up wanting donuts but never got any.  We went and picked up Ziva and found a Moe's on the way home. We were quite excited!  Also on the way home we honked at people texting while driving. Come on people. When we got home Ziva was passed out in the same spot all day long.  We had to peel her off her bed to take her outside. The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet around here.  I worked on a little project (I'm almost done!! eee!) Jeremy played his video games and well, Z was sleeping.  Sunday i did make a run to the grocery store for some donuts!  Hope everyone else had a more exciting weekend!
