Finished Macrame

I finished up my macrame wall hanging i started a few weeks ago!   I like how it turned out.  A little different than what I was picturing, but then again i was really just making it up as I went so I wasn't really sure what i wanted.

I did a few things and then undid them and then had to finish things up because I started to run out of rope.  I actually had to extend the rope by sewing on more rope to the ends so I could finish.  Definitely take a lot of rope to do a big design!  If you think you have enough...add a few more feet.

So I first tried to do a leaf design in the center, but it was kinda wonky so I undid it and tried a snowflake.  As you can see the rope was getting shorter in the middle.

Now that I look at it on here the snowflake makes it look like an eye....hmmm oh well.
 I still like it better.

And all done! I may someday do some more macrame-ing, maybe not as big, but I had fun doing it.
Really once you figure out how to do the knots and what design you want it's pretty easy and goes by fast.  I would have probably finished in a week had I not run out of rope and had to hand sew more, that kinda took awhile. And that was mostly done during nap time and some evenings after I put Rose down for bed.

Macrame

Started working on a macrame wall hanging yesterday.
I'm kinda just making it up as i go and looking up how to the knots online.
Fingers crossed it turns out how i picture it will in my mind!

garland

The other week i took home a bunch of seeded eucalyptus stems that was about to be thrown out.  I decided that i could make a garland or a wreath or both out of it.  This past Monday I made a garland.  It feels a little Christmas-y with it up, but i'm ok with that!  When or if i get tired of the garland maybe i'll make a wreath.  I was kinda planning on making a fall wreath this year with all the different colored berries and leaves and things.  Hopefully i won't miss it.

This was all that was left.

paint by numbers and a few more flowers from the park

Some more flowers i took from the park.  It's hard to get them from the park to our home without getting a little beat up or wilted, but i do my best. Also i went out to the antique mall to browse.  I came back with 5 new to me paint by numbers and a little footed vase.

I believe the flowers and the horses are kinda old. The Venice scene i did myself a few years ago.  The Last Supper I've been eyeing for awhile. It was up on the wall all the way at the top by the ceiling so i never really got to see it up close.  I thought that awhile back i saw one in Hobby Lobby and i wanted to do it myself, but ever since then i go back to look and it's never there. I still wish i could have done it buuuut it did come framed!

I've been working on a lighthouse one for the past few months and last night i ran out of one of the colors i still need a lot of and it looks pretty bad.  It was a cheap one and the paint seems to be kinda watery and it doesn't even cover up the numbers or lines very well so you can see them through the paint.  Plus you have to mix most of the colors yourself and they didn't turn out like the picture.  So i started working on a (Wise) Owl last night.  (i bought a bunch a few months ago...i still have 2 ship ones)

giant tissue paper flower

Awhile back i saw on Design Sponge (click here) a DIY project on how to make giant paper flowers.  shortly after i went out to hobby lobby and bought some tissue paper and started making a practice one.  It turned out pretty bad and just kinda threw it aside because cutting out all the pedals are not easy with the thin paper.  It was frustrating.  Finally Friday i pulled out the rest and just started cutting away.  It took for ever, but it turned out great (i think so)  I would hate to have to make a ton of these though.  I bought green tissue paper to make a leaf and a stem (i wasn't going to bother with concrete), but then i realized i already had a stem with leaves on it and i would just attach the flower.  Much easier.

necklaces

A long time ago (like fall 2010) i started this little bow tie necklace.
I made the bow tie with just beads and wire.  I wasn't sure what i wanted to use
to attach to it so i never finished.
A few weeks ago i bought a chain to put on it, but didn't like it.
So yesterday morning i just decided to finish it off with the same beads.
YAY!

And speaking of necklaces...here a few others i made.  I tried to
make my own Anthropologie inspired necklaces...

Made this also in fall of 2010.  Paperclips and duck tape.
Anthropologie $168 - Mine $5

Made this one last February.  Don't remember prices though.

DIY Valentine Arrows

I've been waiting to share this little project with you for about a week.
I wanted to wait till it was at least February!
Last year i came across this DIY at Design Sponge after Valentines Day
and hoped that i would remember it for this year.  I did!

Materials

-wooden dowels
-wooden hearts
-feathers
-paint
-string
-sandpaper
-paintbrushes
-scissors
-hot glue gun or other kinds of glue (i tried wood glue put for some reason it didn't stick...maybe i didn't wait long enough)

First sand down the wooden dowels and hearts until smooth.  Then to make the end into the "v" to fit the heart i found that the best way was to just sand it down.  As you can see the first 2 dowels didn't turn out so good because i tried to cut it with a blade.

Paint the hearts and dowels in your base color.  Then glue on heart.

Cut feathers and attach to other end of dowel.  Then for the center just paint some stripes or whatever you like and tie around some string.

I really love mine and i may just have to put them on the wall somewhere and keep them out year-round!!

Little House on the pillow

Ok so i know that was a cheesy title...whatever...

A few months back i saw some little house pillows here and here. The girl on the blog mom makes them. I thought that they were really cute and figured i would try and make one for myself.  I kinda based it off the house i grew up in.  When i would describe to people where i lived it always ended with "oh the big white house with the red chimneys" so i had to have a red roof.  We also used to have a big tree out front with a tire swing on it.  Me and my brother, Ian, were playing on it one day (i was probably 6) and the photographer for the newspaper drove by, stopped and took some pictures of us.  The next week we were in the newspaper...playing on the tire swing.  I also had to have some flowers out front since my mom is a gardener.

My brothers didn't have floral curtains in their bedroom, but i liked the fabric.

Most of it was stitched by hand.

I think the tree might be one of my favorite parts.

And a song for my pillow ...

That dog looks like Ziva!
